Behind The Scenes A/W 2012 Lookbook

Are photos of your house available publicly searchable on Google?

The venue of VING MING's first look-book photo shoot was possible because of an invitation from a generous friend of mine. An invitation, to her Google searchable home which makes it quite an architectural achievement.

What greets visitors is a big black looming wooden door for the entrance which guards a courtyard that befits a zen getaway villa. It's actually a house - I kid you not - and not a spa resort that you might see featured on Wallpaper magazine. It made a good backdrop scene for the shoes as there were lots to shoot with. I wanted a setting that contradicted and complemented the shoes. Contradicting because the tranquil and zen-like ambiance imbued by the venue would emphasize on the loud designs of the shoes.  On the other hand, the raw textures of the architecture and the way the venue interacts with its surroundings complements the shoes as they were designed with the contours of the body in mind.

The "Le Début" Concepts

Or the commencement of VING MING designs. 

I do try to steer away from popular practices/ cliches in anything I'm involved in (like naming the shoe), but in this case calling each shoe by its physical description (Black Suede Pump) doesn't rhyme with VING MING. So, I resorted to naming them after the spirit for which the shoe is meant to embody. My main inspirations for these come mainly from the 80s edgy glamor with visually teasing shapes. The design closest to my heart has to be the PennyCopy booties.

And yes, I am very aware the double usage of 'the' in the title. Indulge.

Prada A/W 2012 Shoes

I've become a real fan of the Miuccia Prada fashion family of late.

I like the bold designs & crazy prints. It doesn't look gaudy but rather pleasing to the eye.

Now, If only I could find those floral prints for my own shoe designs hmm...

Not really fancy-ing the blocky brogue though. What you think?

Living the 60s Through Kate Spade!

In my research on all things 60s, I stumbled upon more things groovy :)

I love how the red socks enriches an otherwise monotonous outfit - great style tip for those with a lot of black/white/silver/grey shoes.

I have an inclination to like heels without platforms. 

This outfit bears the same color code of a shoe I'm working on :P

Those were my initial thoughts from an early draft of the post but then, the shoes started to grow on me...

Prada's 2012 S/S cadillac inspired heels. 

Sure, they definitely aren't shoes you can wear just anywhere. You aren't meant to anyway. I think what endeared me about it, is that even though those are obviously vintage car fenders from the 50s, Prada has managed to assimilate the shapes of the car with the form the heel into a wearable shoe. A tasteful blend of art & design. And it isn't beyond comprehension to the common person. So they are statement shoes even for the not so bold/eccentric.

Chameleon Sisters

 Camouflage? Nay, more like waving that flag around.

Red Low Heels Prototype

It's the weekend and a good time to get some eye candy.

It's been quite a journey in the realm of shoe 'innovation' - lot more complicated than I expected.

I've always had a thing for red shoes and I've insisted on coming up with something so red, that it'll make you the target of every bull that is... err lurking around. 

Anyway, this design isn't complete as the height is still below the 3-inch mark and the wedge looks more like a stump heel. I'm making adjustments to make it a wedge with a small twist of a heel. Hope you understand what I'm getting at.

I was reading my previous blog entry on why women should wear high-heels/stilettos/pumps, and I have to say it really looks like a blatant attempt by me to create a subconscious need in your mind to buy the heels I am selling (which are very delicious looking). I really do not want my blog to be like a magazine that just promotes products, if only a little...

Having said that, I want to stress that if I were a woman, I'd be wearing heels everyday! Why? I went to Italy - Rome to be precise. First amazing thing: It's Italy. Second amazing thing: Italian women. 

From that day onwards, I find Italian women to be very attractive. They have an aura about them that oozes "edgy, rugged & sexy love". During my time there, I'd always see an Italian woman/girl with heels, period. I really think they have truly mastered the art of wearing high heels. They practically wear it all day; run with it; work with it; even ride bikes with it.
